Video games have become more popular since the 1980’s. However, it is the history of video games which can be quite fascinating when discussing innovation. The first video games date back to the 1940’s. During the 1940’s a cathode ray tube missile defense system was created. It was this system that was converted into video games in the 50’s.
In the 60’s more advanced technology was already creating computer games for the masses. It is this period that is responsible for arcade, mainframe consoles, personal computers, and later the handheld games. The first commercially sold video game was Computer Space in 1971. It took six years more for video games to gain in popularity, with many games hitting the market and soon becoming obsolete.
