Accidental Innovation may sound like an oxymoron when you consider what the two words mean. Accidental means that something happens by accident, where it is unplanned. Innovation is the creation of new concepts by trying to solve a problem for the consumer. It would seem like accidental innovation could not exist. Still, the phrase accidental innovation is a concept in the business world. Harvard stated that accidental innovation is the formation of new ideas outside of the structured planning session.
In other words one might go to an innovation session and the right idea just will not come to fruition. Then the person or persons leave and they come up with the right idea. This accidental innovation is often how many of the new products are released on the market.
