Medicine has a number of different branches that break down to specialty options. Gynecology is just one branch and it deals with the female reproductive system. Over the years gynecology has advanced. The first known medical text was Kahun Gynecological Papyrus which dates to 1800BCE. This text discussed the diseases, fertility, pregnancy, and contraception dealing with the female body. Over the years gynecology advanced to the techniques we have today. Most in gynecology will do exams of the pelvis region to ensure that all is well.
Gynecology also uses ultrasound to determine if there are any abnormalities to be found. There are diseases that can affect a woman’s reproductive system such as cancer, amenorrhea, dysmenorrhoea, infertility, and menorrhagia which the doctor will examine the patient for.
