The world’s largest skateboarding ramp is located north of San Diego. The ramp sits on 12 acres of farmland in the San Marcos Mountains. Bob Burnquist, who is 30, built the skateboarding ramp. He is a renowned skateboarder from Brazil. The skateboarding ramp is 360 feet in length. Its height is 75 feet at the apex. The rider will begin their run at the 75 foot mark launching themselves down the ramp. Speeds of 55 miles per hour have been reached. The roll in to the ramp is 180 feet. There is also a 70 foot gap with trapeze netting in case the skateboarders make a mistake on their run.
The skaters will land on the 27 foot sloped section before heading up 50 feet with a 30 foot quarter pipe. The skateboarding ramp has two platforms. Individuals who do not want to go from 75 feet can go to the 50 foot platform. From here there is a 50 foot gap and 30 foot quarter pipe.
The skateboarding ramp was completed in September 2006. It took a year of construction to get the ramp up and ready. Burnquist’s ramp cost $280,000 to build. Part of the expense was covered by the skateboarder’s sponsors Oakley and Hurley. This is the first ramp which will be permanent. The X Games creates a new ramp each year, but none of them have been permanent. Several top skateboarders have been waiting to try the ramp. The creation is both innovative and exciting for skateboarders.
