Hip Hop is a type of music that became very popular during the 80’s and has remained quite popular. Hip Hop actually began in the 1970’s in New York. The style of music is funk, disco, soul, and even scat singing. Many refer to Hip Hop as rap. There is a very large culture following Hip Hop.
The music genre is mostly influenced by African Americans and Jamaicans. Often the lyrics are not sung in Hip Hop, but spoken to the beat. Though widely popular there are those who do not consider Hip Hop music at all. These individuals tend not to recognize the spoken lyrics as singing, nor the rhythm to the background music. The term Hip Hop came from the cadence of marching soldiers that the music mimics.
