Whole Foods is based out of Austin, Texas. They provide “natural” and organic foods. Whole Foods offers a deli, grocery, bakery, meat, seafood, and even wine. It is a typical market store with fresh foods and dry goods. Whole Foods was founded in 1980, and has grown to 276 locations. In 2006 talks began between Whole Foods and Wild Oats Markets. By 2007 Whole Foods acquired Wild Oats.
This acquisition created a bit of controversy since the two stores were organic and natural foods. Many felt competition should exist for that type of market, but in the end the courts decided other grocery stores like Safeway offered enough organic and natural products to say Whole Foods would not have a monopoly. Whole Foods has also rebranded a few of the Wild Oats stores after upgrading them.
