Talent Management

Every company needs talent management.  The concept talent management is about developing and integrating workers in your company that will help advance it.  Basically, by recruiting new employees, promoting current workers, and finding those who are highly skilled can help keep a business open.  Talent management has also referred to individuals who work in the management of entertainers, but this is a secondary definition of what the two words mean.

David Watkins of Softscape is the one to create the phrase.  He used it in an article in 1998 that he was writing about profitable employees and competition among firms. The paper was known as “The War of Talent.”  Companies who use talent management are doing so to integrate plans and processes in their business which helps to track and manage the employee talent that exists in the company.

There are specific areas that companies focus on when it comes to finding the right employees under the concept talent management.  Sourcing helps to attract qualified employees that have competitive backgrounds into a company.  Then there is the management and defining of salaries.  The companies must offer competitive wages to gain the attention of the prospective employee.  Companies that offer training and development opportunities often use talent management

Any company using this concept will have a strategic plan for how to source, attract, select, develop, train, promote, and retain the employees they scout for.  Research is done to ensure the company is getting the right employee and that they can hold on to this employee for the duration.
