On January 11, 2007 the Central Intelligence Agency or CIA released a photo of a new Canadian spy coin. According to the government this spy coin has a transmitter in between two pieces of metal. The transmitters in the spy coins send tiny radio frequencies back to the government. The spy coins were planted on US contractors who had classified security clearances. The coins were found between 2005 and 2006.
These contractors were traveling between the US and Canada. The US stated these spy coins could be used to track the movements of people in the US government working on classified projects. It is unclear how the spy coins were discovered by the government, but a warning was issued regarding the spy coins so that other contractors can be aware.
