Anesthesiology is the branch of medicine that uses anesthesia on patients. A person will study regular medicine and a great deal of chemistry in order to decide what amount of anesthesia should be given to a patient. In Anesthesiology the doctor has to offer the right amount of anesthesia to the patient so that they will remain unconscious during a surgical procedure. However, too much of anesthesia can be a problem, so in Anesthesiology the doctor must calculate body weight and other factors to decide what the right amount of medication is.
In Anesthesiology the doctor wants to bring about a total lack of awareness in a certain area of the body or completely. With Anesthesiology the doctor can induce a state of amnesia, loss of consciousness or loss of skeletal reflexes.
